The short version
- No sign-in needed. You can play as a guest. We create a random ID, not a profile about you.
- Your game, your device. Progress and settings are stored on your phone. When you're online they're also saved to our servers so scores and the Daily Challenge work.
- Ads are optional. You only see an ad when you choose to watch one for a reward. You decide whether ads may be personalised.
- Delete any time. Email [email protected] and we'll delete your account data.
What we collect
Stored on your device
Your level progress, stars, streak, scores, word collection, looks, and settings (sound, music, haptics, US or UK English) are saved on your device so the game works offline. Daily reminders are scheduled on your device. We don't send a push notification token to our servers.
Your game account
When the app connects to our servers, it creates an account with:
- a random account ID and a display name. That's a generated guest name like “Guest-7KQX”, or a name you choose after signing in;
- a friend code so friends can add you;
- game data: levels reached, scores, Daily Challenge results, streak, league standing, friends list, coins, gems, chests and looks;
- score checks: when you submit a ranked score, the app sends a record of your swipes on that board so our server can verify the score was played fairly;
- technical details: app version, and when your account was created and last seen.
If you choose to sign in
Signing in is optional. It keeps your progress in sync across devices. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication with the provider you pick (for example Apple, Google or email). We receive an account identifier and the name of the provider. Your email address and password are handled by the sign-in provider under its own privacy policy. We don't keep your email in our game database.
Gameplay events
The app sends us simple, first-party gameplay events, such as “level started”, “level finished” and “hint used”. They're linked to your account ID so we can balance difficulty and fix problems. There's a daily limit on how many we accept. We don't use a third-party analytics service.
Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We use RevenueCat to manage them. We receive the product, the transaction status and your account ID so we can deliver what you bought. We never see your card or bank details.
When you contact us
If you email us, we keep your email address and message so we can help you.
Server logs
Our servers log each request's type, path, result and duration to keep the service running. Our access logs don't record your IP address. Our hosting provider processes IP addresses to deliver traffic and protect against abuse.
What other players can see
- Your display name and scores on leaderboards and in weekly leagues.
- Friends you've added can see your display name and friend code.
- A challenge link you share shows your display name and the score you shared to anyone who opens it.
Please don't use your real full name or other personal details as your display name.
How we use your information
- To run the game: save progress, run the Daily Challenge, leaderboards, leagues, friends and challenges.
- To keep it fair: verify ranked scores and prevent cheating and abuse.
- To deliver purchases and rewards, including rewards for ads you choose to watch.
- To improve the game: balance levels and fix bugs using gameplay events.
- To answer your support requests.
If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal bases are: performing our agreement with you (providing the game and purchases), our legitimate interests (fair play, security and improving the game), and your consent where the law requires it (for example, personalised ads).
Ads
WordWiggle shows rewarded ads only when you choose to watch one, for example to earn coins. There are no banner ads. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, which may collect your device's advertising identifier, your IP address and how you interact with ads. Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- On iPhone and iPad, the app asks your permission before allowing tracking (App Tracking Transparency). Saying no still gives you the same rewards.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, you'll see a consent form before any ad loads, and you can choose non-personalised ads.
- On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
If you buy Remove ads, ad offers stop.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and game data while your account is in use. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and game data from our servers, except for records we must keep by law, such as purchase records. Support emails are kept while we're helping you and for a reasonable time afterwards. Data on your device stays until you delete the app.
Your choices and rights
- Play without an account. Sign-in is always optional.
- Choose or change your display name once you've signed in.
- Control ads with your device's tracking and advertising ID settings, and the consent form where shown.
- Turn off reminders in the app or in your device settings.
- Delete your data. Email [email protected] with your friend code (shown in the app). Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or California law), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict some uses, and to withdraw consent. Email us to use these rights and we'll respond within the time the law requires. We won't treat you differently for using them. In the EEA or UK you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
WordWiggle has family-friendly words and clues, but it is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app and our servers, limit who on our team can access data, and check a sign-in token on every account request. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.
This website
wordwiggle.day doesn't use cookies, analytics or trackers, and loads its fonts from our own server. If you open a challenge link, our server shows the challenge using the display name and score in that link.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app. Questions or requests? Email [email protected].
